Winters are long here in Vermont. When spring finally arrives, it still seems like forever until the leaves actually pop. This year it happened on May 23rd. I filmed this brief slow-mo clip of a newborn fern on June 8th. Photography is all about “writing with light” as my first teacher showed me, back in 1963. Sure there are strobes, reflectors and continuous lights, but nothing beats nature’s light. When I stumble on a particularly striking example, I take it. Here is a perfect moment of zen.
